Interview with Bethany Dillon

Bethany Dillon shares some insights about her upcoming sophomore release, "Imagination" (available September) and what's been inspiring and feeding her own imagination lately...

Tell us about the album and why it's called "Imagination"?

I wrote the title song almost a year ago. It was right in the middle of touring and beginning the writing process for the new record. God's grace had been such a huge thing in my life, and I wanted to have a song that told the story of where He had me at the time. From that one song came the vision for the rest of the record - "the theme of redemption is in almost every track. Though it's not a 'theme' record, it is very much about God's love for us being deeper and far more eternal than what we could ever hope - His imagination.

This being your 2nd album, how was the process different from your debut and describe the journey between the two?

Where do I start! We had an insane amount of time for the first record, because we really wanted it to be right. There was a lot of time put into finding producers that fit, a sound that fit, not to mention waiting on the right songs. From start to finish, it was about a year and a half process.

This time around, we had the song meeting in November/December, and finished the record in May. That might seem like enough time, but it has been such a whirlwind! But to tell you the truth, the past six months have been so rich. God has provided in the sweetest and most unexpected ways. It feels like there has been a journey between the first record and the second like we're really moving toward something.

This fall is going to be a busy one for you, going out with Jeremy Camp on tour - tell us about it! What are you most excited about?

I don't think I could be any more stoked about this fall - it's been so much fun getting to know Jeremy and his wife. The first time I talked to him, I just knew he was kindred. There's no way to describe the peace in aligning yourself in ministry with someone that you really believe in and respect - someone that points you to Jesus. I know that we're going to have so much fun just hanging out - all of the crew, the bands, everyone -but what I'm most looking forward to is seeing how God is going to move and change hearts in it and because of it.
