Interview with Andy Hunter

How would you describe yourself as a person?

I would describe myself as a laid-back person, who is passionate and hungry for God. I would say I am a wonderful person.

What is your favourite Bible Verse?

I would say I have always lived my life by Proverbs 16:3.

What is your favourite kind of music?

I have a very eclectic taste in music. I don’t have one specific favourite and like singer/ songwriters, as well as bands. I like listening to Moby’s latest album at the moment.

Who has been the most inspirational person in your life?

There have been several inspirational people in my life, ranging from fellow musicians to the leaders in my church. Kenny Mitchel in Brooklyn and Ray Goudie are two people who have had an effect on me.

How did you become a DJ?

Being a DJ was something that I had always wanted to do and I have always had a love for music. I started out as a sound engineer for various bands. About ten years ago, I finished travelling with the bands and this gave me a good excuse to buy the equipment needed to become a DJ and start learning the trade. I have been able to develop my own style since then.

How do you like to spend time relaxing?

I like to spend my spare time with my family and friends. I like spending time with my wife and son, as well as meeting friends whom I haven’t seen for a while. I also enjoy cooking.

What was the inspiration behind your recent release, Life?

The inspiration for Life was a vision which I had, while I was praying. I saw wasteland in my prayers and my wish was that God would breathe life into the wasteland. This was significant in many different ways: I hoped God would work in the lives of people I have met, my friends and family and in the lives of people in the places I have visited. I saw everyone’s life as a part of the wasteland in my vision, which God needed to work on.

How does your album Life differ from Exodus?

The main difference between Life and Exodus is that more live instruments were used. More live guitars, bass guitars and drums featured, as well as more vocalists. More lyrics were included in Life than appeared in Exodus.

How do you hope your music affects the lives of people today?

My music is targeted towards the young people today and my hope is that they will experience God in some way, as they listen to it. My hope is that all young people will sense God and hear what God has to say to them.

What projects do you hope to get involved with in the future?

I am doing a tour of the UK and Ireland called Hope & Glory Tour with the band, Steve, which kicks off at the end of October. Hope & Glory Tour is a worship tour. I want people to experience God doing amazing stuff as they attend. I want people to come along and sense God in their own lives. I am getting very excited about the tour and the effects it might have. I want people to forget about us as musicians and listen to the lyrics of the songs and the music and build their lives on what they hear. I want to see lives changed and want the tour to be a time for Christians and non-Christians alike.
